Ex-principal Jeff and Teacher Marcia served in GTIS for 3 years from 2008 to 2011.
As one of the original pioneers of the school, they braved challenging living conditions, and laid the foundations and groundwork for much of what the school is today.
They are very dear to many of the senior teachers, who started out as fledging teachers with them.
This time, they were back for almost 2 months, in January and February, as they helped with teacher-training as well as beefing up the English, Maths and Science curriculums.
As always, time passes too fast, and it is time to part ways for awhile.
Surely we will meet again!
Our Student Leaders, preparing for the flag raising ceremony. They are scheduled in turns to do this every week.
Some wonderful handmade products from the sewing class are now on display and out for sale!
So, so proud of our students for what they have achieved and the skills they have acquired.
1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 "See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3 and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship, 4 to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, 5 in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every craft. - Exodus 31:1-5
Pretty colours at dawn.
For the longest time, it had been a field of frustration, as the ground grew lumpy and marshy, and small mammals built nests and created hillocks, making mowing a chore. At times, flooding occurred, and it became a field of the impossible, as there was simply no way to play in the field during the rainy season.
Now, the dreams of soccer playing are becoming possible again, as it was filled up and tilled, with massive trucks and bulldozers in turn.
The children saw the tilling of the land, and asked, “Are we planting rice now?”
With the elevation of the land and drainage channels to be built at the sides, the land will become a field of dreams again.
And when the rains come, and the grass grow green, the sound of running feet and children’s laughter will be heard on the field once more.
An afternoon’s brief on logistics and what to prepare when meeting parents. Teacher Sovan and Teacher Siden are fun and engaging facilitators as always.
The first Student Leaders’ meeting of 2020.
It’s always fun to have lessons outside the four walls!
From the rising of the sun, to the going down of the same, the Lord’s Name, is to be praised.
The staff and volunteers of GTIS are thankful for the generosity and work of Ngee Ann Polytechnic, who have donated the laptops!
The fruition of this dream has been a long time coming.
A new computer lab for the students.
Teacher Vaty’s hard at work setting up the software.
While Brother Pisey is making sure all the room is spick and span, and all fittings are properly in place.
Isn’t the room beautiful? With light streaming through the blue curtains.
We trust God in His Providence, for the finances that is needed for this computer room. The first seed of faith has been planted!
A friendly match between GTIS and FGA on 28th Dec 2019.
In the weekend before Christmas, a group of Singapore volunteers visited GTIS to conduct a math and science camp for our Grade 7-12 students.
It was a 2.5 days’ worth of fun-packed activities!
Basic Newtonian science concepts were exhibited though fun activities such as balloon-propelled handmade toy cars and rainbow wheels. And maths formulas were reinforced through innovative exercises of orange peels (we get to eat the fruit after that!)
Most importantly, the students had a meaningful time of bonding with each other and learning the importance of teamwork and post-activity reflection.
The staff and students of GTIS would like to say a big THANK YOU to the volunteers from Sembawang Presbyterian Church for their time and extensive efforts in along the Maths and Science Camp 2019 a success!
See below for more photos from the camp.
GTIS staff Chanthy and Sophat wishes everyone a blessed Christmas 2019. God is good, His blessings endure forever!
So Teacher Sa’Em went around the place, taking even more photos of the kids during their recess break. Some are simply having a good time with their friends, others seem to be in a rather contemplative mood. Can you spot who are the extroverts and the introverts?
Such heartwarming expressions in their faces. This is the look of contented children with nourishing food and an opportunity for a good education. All the hard work, the tears and pain, the mountain of challenges faced by the staff and missionaries, they are all worth it.
Hungrily tucking in to a plate of chicken rice and iced Thai green tea.
A music practice session led by our wonderful Pastor Edgar.
On the top floor of the Tower Block, something new is brewing.
Paint cans lie scattered on the floor, as new designs appear on the walls everyday.
A music class is in session, and Pastor Edgar is teaching.
Good job everyone!
… a happy smile,
…. shining eyes,
… a snack in hand.
Joy is in the face of a child, with a world of possiblities before him.
Landfills and large volumes of plastic waste is a problem in Cambodia, as with many other countries too.
The habit of recycling starts at school!
Here is a map of the Kingdom of Cambodia, with the different provinces highlighted using different colored bottle caps.
Good job students!
